Holly's Kelsey Foucart drive t... HOLLY, Michigan - Helped in great measure by 10 first half steals and 17-3 first quarter, the Holly girls’ basketball team cruised to an easy over Brandon Friday night, 37-22. The Bronchos’ Allyssa Copley had 10 first quarter points, along with two steals and a block to put Holly in a position for a great game. Needing a win in a big way after the tough loss to Clio on Tuesday, the Bronchos came out strong in this home win.
“We go hard every game,” said Holly senior Kelsey Foucart. She was instrumental in the Broncho effort, coming off the bench.
“We needed to come out play, like we did at Clio, just with a little more intensity,” said Holly’s Brooke Harthun.
The Blackhawks played Holly strong after that disheartening first quarter. Brandon, led by some strong play from Amanda Harvard, were down only 25-15 in the third before Holly went on 12-3 run to push it to 37-18 in the fourth.
Harvard led the Blackhawks with seven points. Emily Yeacker added five. Holly did a good job defensively on freshman Kaitlyn Hendeshot who finished with only three points after scoring in bunches in the teams’ first meeting in December.
Holly’s star sophomore, Copley, was, well Allyssa Copley. The six foot center dropped in 20 points to go along with 12 rebounds, five blocks and two steals.
“We’ve really worked hard on getting the ball down low to me. We’ve worked on that a lot,” said Copley. The undersized Blackhawks were unable to slow down Copley on both ends of the floor.
Holly ended the game with 15 steals, a rate of almost one every other minute.
“Our girls have been pretty good about bouncing back, Coach David Hall said referring to the team’s loss to Clio. “The girls are really good at going back and analyzing their performance. We have a good bunch. They just want to play.
“We got a lot of kids in that don’t play a lot and that was good,” said Hall.
Holly’s Lauren Maher had five points, as did Harthun. Each one had a three-pointer.
Senior Kelsey Foucart, added a bucket to her four rebounds. Kayla Skopek had four points for the Bronchos.
Holly upped its Flint Metro League record to 10-2. They are now 12-3 overall.
The Blackhawks dropped to 2-10 in the league and 2-13 in all games.
Holly is off until next Friday when they travel to the east side of Flint to take on Kearsley.
