It’s that time of the year again – the time when you’ll run across a well-bundled guy standing in one of Holly’s several intersections selling newspapers.
Friday begins the Holly Kiwanis Club’s annual newspaper sale – one of the few yearly fundraisers held by the club in order to raise funds for Christmas baskets for the needy, and to help those less-fortunate pay utility bills this winter.
Whatever donation you can afford earns you the privilege of reading and enjoying a wide assortment of articles written by a diverse group of Holly Kiwanis Club members. Some articles showcase recent events or happenings, while others offer readers a glimpse into the Holly of yesterday. Either way, you’re guaranteed an interesting read.
Alan “Scoop” Campbell – a former resident of Holly and the current publisher of the Leelanau News serves as editor and chief of this project, and does a remarkable job with the layout and making sure the papers are ready to go in time for the sale. The Holly Kiwanis are grateful for his help, and couldn’t do it without him.
Last year, the Holly Kiwanis newspaper sale raised an amazing $8,000! Let’s hope that the readership keeps growing so that the Kiwanis can continue to do what they do best – being the Goodfellows that they are, and continuing to be a tremendous asset to the Holly community.
If you don’t manage to grab a paper on Friday, the Kiwanis will be out in full force again on Saturday selling papers at local intersections and some of the well-traveled businesses in the area. Hope to see you there!
Have a great weekend!
