HOLLY, Michigan – Once again, the students of Patterson Elementary School are learning one of life’s great lessons in giving back to the community, this time hosting a “Food for Families” drive.

Coordinator of the drive, Dieredre Dannecker said a turkey will be raffled off to those making donations of 5 food items. School-wide “casual days” will be used as incentives for donations like “Slippers for Soup,” “Pasta for Patterson,” Camo for Cans,” and “Hats for Hamburger Helper” over the next three week period.

Dannecker said the drive is scheduled to end on Dec. 10, but that donations will be accepted through Dec. 18.

“Food will be donated to the Kiwanis Club in Holly to fill Christmas food baskets,” she said.  Dannecker said Patterson’s food donation will be delivered to the First Baptist Church of Holly on Dec. 22. “I will be there along with whatever other teachers and parents come to volunteer help that day.”

Those wishing to help supplement Patterson’s food drive may drop off food items to the school office from 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more information on how you can help with the Kiwanis Christmas food basket assembly and delivery process, contact Gordie Dryer at (248) 634-8291.

1958: Why are you so bitter? I believe that this food will be delivered to those that need it. I believe in helping those in our community who are in need. This is certainly the time of year for charity and compassion.

I am sure any Kiwanis member would be glad to explain the process that is used for Christmas deliveries. The First Baptist Church allows the use of their building on December 23 and 24 for the Kiwanis deliveries. Likewise, I am sure Pastor Pedley would be glad to explain the First Baptist Church's participation in several food distribution programs.
