HOLLY, Michigan - With the Holly High School graduation ceremony slated for Friday, June 3, Holly High School announced it’s top ten students for the Class of 2011. Students having identical grade point averages are listed in alphabetical order. Lauren O’Leary, Valedictorian, 4.0 GPA Lauren is the daughter of John and Anita O’Leary, and is involved in Yearbook, National Honors Society and varsity soccer. She received the Holly High School Dollars for Scholars Award, and the Centralis Gold Award from Central Michigan University. Lauen plans to attend the Honors College at Central Michigan University where she will pursue studies in fashion merchandising and public relations. Cody is the son of David and Susan Petzold, and is a member of the Main Street Show Choir and is actively involved in school and community theatre as well as the visual arts program. Cody received the Sue Connolly Theatre Scholarship, Lahring Valedictorian Scholarship, Jean Schelp Free Memorial Scholarship, and the Carol Smith Memorial Scholarship. Cody plans to attend the Honors College of Oakland University where he will major in musical theatre and minor in education. He hopes to pursue his love of acting and singing while helping others to discover their passion.
The daughter of Matt and Sandy Rombach, Nicole is involved in Yearbook, National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Spanish Club and varsity soccer. She received the Lahring Valedictorian Scholarship, Holly Kiwanis Scholarship, and the Central Michigan Centrlis Gold Award, as well as the Board of Trustees Academic Scholarship. Nicole will attend the Honors College of Central Michigan University, majoring in athletic training in order to eventually pursue a degree in physical therapy. Melissa Smiles, Valedictorian, 4.0 GPA The daughter of Jeff and Michelle Smiles, Melissa is Captain of varsity soccer, President of National Technical Honor Society, Vice President of Spanish National Honor Society, a member of the Captain’s Club, and National Honor Society. Melissa was the kicker for the HHS varsity football team, and plans to attend Trine University where she is enrolled in the Mechanical Engineering Bachelor/Masters program and Honors College. A talented soccer player, Melissa will also play for the Trine University soccer team. Anna Quinnan, Salutatorian, 3.99 GPA Anna is the daughter of Matthew and Wendy Quinnan, was Captain of the varsity swim team, and a member of the National Honor Society. She received the Board of Trustees Outstanding High School Student Scholarship, and the Holly High School Dollars for Scholars Award. Anna plans to attend Central Michigan University where she will study pre-med to fulfill her dream of becoming a doctor.
The daughter of Cathy and Tom Derocher, Rachel is a member of the varsity track and cross country teams. She received the Distinguished Scholar Award from Albion College where she plans to attend the Honors Program this fall, majoring in English, and minoring in either psychology or environmental science. Erin Avey, 3.95 GPA Erin is the daughter of Lynn and Ted Avey, is the co-president of the French Club and enjoys playing the piano. Erin received the Distinguished Scholar Award from Oakland University where she will attend this fall, pursing a degree in marketing. Matthew Beckner, GPA 3.94 Matthew is the son of Alice and Allen Beckner. Throughout his high school career, Matthew played soccer, basketball, and baseball, and is a member of the National Honor Society. Matt received the RH Bravender Mathematics Award, Holly High School Dollars for Scholars Award, and the Presidential Scholarship from Central Michigan University. Matt plans to attend Oakland University this fall to concentrate on a math or science-related career. Shannen Renehan, 3.94 GPA Shannen is the daughter of Phillis and Dan Renehan and has excelled in varsity tennis throughout her high school career, earning Metro and Regional Champion titles for two years. Shannen is President of Class Council, a member of National Honor Society and the Captain’s Club. Shannen also received the HHS Dollars for Scholars Award. She plans to attend the University of Michigan this fall, majoring in biology, and hoping to eventually attend the U of M dental school to become a dentist.
The daughter of Steven and Kathy Munger, Cortney is a member of the National Honor Society’s e-board and Class Council. Cortney received the RKB Family Scholarship Award and plans to attend Oakland University to pursue a career in the medical field. |
