HOLLY, Michigan – For Holly Elementary School sixth grader, Kyle Noren, the regional round of the Scripps National Spelling Bee promises to be “fascinating!”

Kyle, 11, won the school’s annual spelling bee on Thursday, edging out super-speller, fellow classmate and friend, Phillip Aderholdt, also 11.

Following Kyle’s correct spelling of the word “fascinating,” the pressure was on Phillip to correctly spell the next word – “livelihood.”  After coming up a vowel or two short, it was Kyle who became the 2012 Holly Elementary School Spelling Bee Champ.  Phillip will serve as the school’s runner-up.

While both boys admitted that they didn’t study a great deal prior to the spelling bee, quick responses on word spellings told the story – both are voracious readers.

“I read a lot,” Kyle said. “I’ve read six books since Christmas,” Phillip added.

Kyle said he is excited to have won the spelling bee, and will head to the regional rounds to be held on March 11 at Oakland Schools in Waterford in the hopes of moving onto the next level.
