HOLLY, Michigan – By day, he’s a journalist for the Colorado Springs Gazette, but on the side, he’s proud to say he’s a children’s fiction author.

Michigan native Matt Steiner, 39 paid a visit Holly Elementary School on Monday, sharing his new book, “Mission Possible,” with third, fourth and fifth grade students, and answering a barrage of questions about the book and his experiences as a journalist.

Published by iUniverse this year, “Mission Possible” tells the story of Tommy Ketchum and his brother, Travis as they – along with their neighborhood gang of pals – try to reclaim “’Ol Blue,” a favorite baseball bat snatched by bully Bart Woods, “The Menace of Mt. Vernon.”

In the process of publicizing his book, Steiner said he hopes “Mission Possible” will leave kids to wanting more. With an engaging story line, Steiner also hits on key topics like friendship, brotherly love and bullying.

“I want kids to enjoy reading the story, but also want to give them the opportunity to learn from it and write about it,” Steiner said. With a series of questions for students to answer in the back of the book, and plans for at least two follow up books in the series, Steiner is hoping the adventures of Tommy and Travis will catch on at other elementary schools across the country.

Carrie Woodzell, a fourth grade teacher at Holly Elementary said her students loved reading “Mission Possible,” and were anxious and excited to meet Steiner on Monday.

“Matt has a great style of writing that keeps the kids engaged,” Woodzell said. “My students thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, and are looking forward to his next.”

Steiner’s book can be ordered on both Borders and Amazon websites. For more information on Steiner and the TNT Adventures, visit the Matt Steiner Books website.
