HOLLY, Michigan – Transitioning from one school to another can be a difficult time for many students. That’s why the Holly Academy’s Parent University is teaming with the Holly Area Youth Coalition to offer the free community event, “Healthy Transitions to Middle and High School,” with prevention specialist, Robert Phillips.

Research indicates that students are at greatest risk for making unhealthy decisions involving alcohol ,other substances, and sexual activity, and  are more likely to expreience academic failure during periods of transition. Using a blend of musical talent, humor and group participation, Phillips creates an uplifting program to help parents and their children transition to the next phase of school.

Parent University representative Denise Diller said the program is aimed toward parents, giving them insight into parental peer pressure, academic integrity and success, effective strategies for improving overall health, safety and well-being for children, creative discipline, and meaningful alcohol and substance abuse prevention.

“Healthy Transitions” is a free event and will take place from 6 until 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4 at the Holly Academy Auditorium, 820 Academy Road in Holly. For more information, visit them online at www.hollyacademy.org and click on School Event.
