ROSE TOWNSHIP, Michigan – With failing septic systems, sunken docks, and lake water literally washing out their backyards, 10 Big School Lot Lake residents met with representatives from the Oakland County Parks and Recreation Commission on Monday, asking them to take immediate action on eliminating the problem – a system of formidable beaver dams and huts within the Rose Oaks Park.

Two beaver dams and four huts downstream from Big School Lot Lake are continuing to cause lake water levels to rise. Residents maintain that they have been battling high waters since 2003, but that recent levels are worse than ever, estimating the water to be up 18 to 24 inches overall.

HOLLY, Michigan – Theater-goers won’t want to miss the production of Tim Kelly’s, “It was a Dark and Stormy Night,” as the Holly High School Theatre troupe performs this comedy later this month.

Customer service isn’t Ye Olde Wayside Inn’s strong point. In fact, the eccentric Saltmarsh family seems anxious to discourage visitors from stopping, even when the wind is howling and the road outside is becoming a quagmire.

That is, except for cousin Ebenezer, who’s only too keen to ensure young female nurses in particular don’t leave the creepy Massachusetts hotel any time soon. Whatever must the spirit of the long-dead General Saltmarsh think?

It Was a Dark and Stormy Night – a phrase which has long since passed into the realms of cliché – is a daft, but undeniably dark, spoof chiller by the late Tim Kelly that carries the strapline “The Addams Family meets Arsenic and Old Lace”.

HOLLY, Michigan – Holly’s main drag was the place to be Saturday night as villagers and visitors from the area turned out in full force for great food, great entertainment, and the chance to mingle with their neighbors during Holly’s annual summer event, “Sights Sounds and Tastes of Holly.”

Nine area restaurants participated in the event, providing tasty treats for the masses. Chamber President Sandra Kleven estimates that between 400 and 500 people attended the event.
