FENTON, Michigan – The Fenton Area Optimist Club has been serving the community for more than 10 years and on Sept. 13, would like to share information on the Optimist International organization and activities and goals of its club with potential new members.

A “meet and greet” event will be held at 6:30 p.m. on that date at the Fenton Brewery & Winery, located in the Lakewinds Plaza at 1545 N. Leroy St., Suite B, Fenton. Light refreshments and a cash bar will be available.

The Fenton Area Optimist Club, one of more than 3,400 Optimist clubs throughout the world, is focused on areas served by the Fenton, Holly, Lake Fenton and Linden school districts. Optimists have the motto “Friend of Youth” and each club decides which projects to undertake to accomplish the mission of “Bringing out the best in kids.”

The “Turn Around Program” is among the annual projects Fenton Area Optimists are most proud. Each year, the club selects and honors sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students from each school district at a luncheon at Spring Meadows Country Club. Community leaders, school administrators, families and more are guests at this event, where the students are formally recognized for turning their lives around, working hard to overcome a variety of challenges. Students in the Holly school district will be recognized for the first time by Fenton Area Optimists at the 2011 luncheon.

Fenton Area Optimists take pride in the quality of their membership and invite community service-minded residents, who have an interest in helping local youth develop into caring, responsible adults, to join them on Sept. 13 at Fenton Winery & Brewery. In order to plan accordingly for the evening, please RSVP by calling (810) 964-7519, or (810) 516-3463.
