HOLLY, Michigan – Village Council members will soon be considering the fate of the WaterWorks building on Broad Street after several residents expressed concern over the safety of the building.

Village Manager Jerry Walker said the residents brought their concerns to the attention of members of the Park Commission during the Nov. 10 meeting.

“I do realize this has been discussed vigorously before – perhaps on numerous occasions, however it was the Park Commission’s request that this be sent back to council to make a determination on what direction to go,” Walker said.

In 2006, former Holly Fire Chief Jack Hollands sustained serious injuries after falling through a portion of the floor that once served as a trap door in the Waterworks building.

“The current status of the building is that it has been posted by the village as unsafe,” Walker said. “The condition continues to deteriorate, so we have posted it as unsafe and don’t allow entrance into the building at all.”

Residents can weigh in on the issue during a public hearing scheduled during the Jan. 10, 2012 Village Council meeting, 315 S. Broad St., Holly.

I know money is non-existant in the village budget for repair/restoration of this building but it does have historical significance. Maybe some grant money could be secured to at least make it safe for now and maybe in the future it could have a restroom for that park.
