Holly Township Supervisor, Jes... DEARBORN, Michigan – In an interest to learn more about public leadership, the University of Michigan is taking a unique approach by seeking feedback from an often-overlooked body of leaders – young public officials.
Hosted by Dr. Dale Thompson, the University of Michigan’s Institute for Local Government is coordinating the Young Government Leaders Conference (You Go Lead) on Friday – a conference geared toward improving the level of awareness young adults have about opportunities within local government. In addition to sharing information about the election and appointment processes, Thompson will be covering a range of topics involved in leadership skill sets and the importance of communication and planning.
This year, Holly Township Supervisor Jesse Lambert will be participating in the second annual conference. At the age of 24, Lambert was elected in 2008, taking over for former Supervisor Dale Smith.
“I am honored that Dr. Thompson requested my attendance for this conference,” Lambert said. “Across the leadership spectrum, we all face unique challenges just by participating in the system that is American government – why not sit down and share what we’ve learned?”
Lambert will be part of a panel made up of other young leaders from around the region, but will be the only head elected official in attendance. “It is essential to communicate knowledge and ideas no matter who you are or what you do,” Lambert said. “Our world is constantly changing, and we need to constantly be changing ourselves.
The You Go Lead conference begins at noon on Friday, Dec. 2 at the University of Michigan Dearborn Campus, 4901 Evergreen Road, Social Science Building 1600. The conference is free and is open to the public.
Register for the conference with Dr. Thompson by calling (313) 593-5545, or via University of Michigan website.
