FENTON, Michigan – Considered to be one of the best ragtime/boogie-woogie pianists in the world, Bob Milne was declared a “National Treasure” by the Library of Congress in 2004.
Music-lovers in the Holly-Fenton area will have the opportunity to listen to him play at 3 p.m. on Monday, July 4 as he takes the Fenton Community Center stage at the Fenton Freedom Festival, courtesy of the Fenton Lakes Chorus of Sweet Adelines International.
Having begun his musical career as a French horn virtuoso in the Rochester Philharmonic and Boston Symphony, Milne’s career took a different direction one evening after the scheduled piano player failed to show up at a sing-along saloon one night. Milne filled in for him, and was hired on the spot.
Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased at the Fenton Community Center, 150 S. Leroy, Fenton, or by contacted the Fenton Chamber office at (810) 629-5447. Tickets can also be purchased at the door with limited seating.
