ROSE TOWNSHIP, Michigan – Local resident and businessman Bob Hoffman is stepping up to the plate once again, this time offering his 299-acre horse farm to host a Patriot Day celebration.
In October of 2001, the United States House of Representatives approved a joint resolution naming Sept. 11 of each year as “Patriot Day,” a day of remembrance for the nearly 3,000 people that perished in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and United Airlines Flight 93.
Last year, members of the Michigan State Senate adopted a resolution to recognize Patriot Week Sept. 11 - 17, with the State House of Representatives expected to follow suit this year. Anchored by the key dates of Sept. 11 and Sept. 17, the anniversary of the signing of the Constitution, each day of Patriot Week has a separate focus.
From 2 until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 12, Hoffman, the owner of Hoffman Farms and president of the Highland Equestrian Conservancy will host a non-partisan event, designed to “renew the spirit of America.”
In addition to elected officials sharing their thoughts on patriotism, picnic-goers can expect to witness a Drum and Fife presentation, Revolutionary War re-enactments with actors and horses, and can take part in face painting, crafts, a bounce house, pony rides and other fun family-oriented activities. Picnic-style food, beverages, ice cream and cake will be available for purchase.
“What’s most important is that this is a non-partisan event,” Hoffman said on Tuesday. “It’s important that we, as Americans, become more aware of what our true freedoms are - true patriots recognize those freedoms.”
Open and free to the public, Hoffman Farms is located at 2521 Rose Center Road. For more information, visit www.patriotweek.org online, email
