HOLLY TOWNSHIP, Michigan – A Holly Township resident living in the 14000 block of Hess Road was robbed Sunday evening, after a man claiming to be an undercover narcotics officer gained entrance to his home.

The suspect, who did not claim a specific agency or wear a uniform, handcuffed the homeowner and proceeded to steal cash and other property from the residence. The homeowner was unharmed and able to summon help after the suspect fled the residence on foot.

A K9 deputy from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for assistance from the Michigan State Police and was able to track the suspect approximately 75 yards before the tracks ended abruptly north of the scene. It is believed the suspect entered a vehicle and left the area.

MSP describes the suspect as a white male, 30 to 40 years old, medium height, stocky build with short hair, and is thought to be driving a white or cream-colored van. Anyone with information pertaining to the robbery is asked to contact the Michigan State Police Groveland Post at (248) 634-4882.

How about just being careful who you let in the front door? I lived on this road. They must have picked a house where no one has a gun handy so they obviously know the road and who lives on it.

I believe we need to look out for ourselves. Keep your house and porch lights on and keep a handgun at home. Police are nice but most of the time they are getting reports from the victim or chalking the body!! No police protection would of helped that guy. If the suspect wanted him dead he would be dead with or without police protection. Look out for yourselves and your neighbors. Also lock your car doors.

One incident doesn't require an overreaction, but a pattern of such problems warrants a reevaluation of our options. I agree with those who say $300 is NOT a lot of money per year. Not to generalize, but some of the folks in my neighborhood who are just "getting by" have flat screen TV boxes out on trash day and smoke a pack a day. Where there's a will, there's a way.

I agree one incident does not make a crime spree. Lets be a little more observant when someone comes to the door. If a guy says he is with the Police dept. ask for some ID. We have to look out for ourselves and then worry about police protection. And who says 25 - 30 dollars isn't much. The last bid we got for police protection was far more than 25 - 30 per month. So I say be more alert to your surroundings and you may not become a victim.

I believe turning on the lights solves the problem. I've been told that before.

Yes, $25/$30 a month might not be a big deal to some, but how about to those of us who've already given up our cell phones and cable tv just to afford the indecent prices on our water and Consumer's bills? I encourage you to really look at those bills; last time we did, we discovered that we're (all) paying a premium because they are passing the cost of their employees' pension and all the money they're paying out in Energy Star appliance rebates (among other things) right on down to us.

I know police protection is important, and if we could afford it, I'd hire a rent-a-cop for our sub, but since we can't, I guess we'll just have to rely on being lucky.

I guess that police protection issue needs to be pushed up to the front again. Way too much stuff going on out here lately. It's really not a huge cost when you break it down. Between 3 and 4 hundred a year per homeowner. That's $25 to $33.33 per month, well worth the money. Come on township residents we pay more than that per month for Cell phones, Cable even dinner and a movie cost more. Let's get our priority's in order before someone get's hurt or killed in our community.
