HOLLY TOWNSHIP, Michigan – Patterson Elementary School families received a memorandum on Wednesday from Principal Dennis Inhulsen, giving parents a heads up regarding an incident that occurred Tuesday afternoon at the corner of Fish Lake Road and Academy Drive.

Students claim a man they describe as a large caucasian in his 50s or 60s with lots of bushy white hair on his head and some facial hair asked them to get into his gray Buick. The students said the front end of his vehicle was damaged and was held down with a Bungee cord. The suspect was alone and did not attempt to get out of his car.

“Our students took the right and safe action by not getting into the car and immediately seeking the help from their families,” Inhulsen wrote. The principal said reports had been made with the Michigan State Police and other police agencies in the area, and that Kent Barnes, superintendent for Holly Area Schools had been notified of the incident.

“Safety must be our highest priority,” Inhulsen said. “I appreciate our students and families for always communicating with us and keeping a sharp eye out for our students.”

Those having further information regarding the incident or the suspect are asked to contact Det. Gary Muir of the Michigan State Police Groveland Post at (248) 634-4882.

Scary times, Wish our children could grow up without the fear we have to put in them with these scary situations but its a reality.

This should be a wake-up call to all parents who think that it wouldn't happen to them, or in a small town, or on a rural street. It only takes a minute talk to your kids about stranger danger. A simple conversation could save your child's life. Good job kids!

Thank you so much for reporting this incident. I feel like the students at the other elementary schools in the immediate area should have been made aware of this by memo as well. Thanks to you we are all informed on this very important incident now. I appreciate your news so very much! And, whoever took the photo of the children getting on the bus did a fantastic job - it is an awesome photo:-)
