HOLLY TOWNSHIP, Michigan – The North Oakland County Fire Authority will be getting a much-needed new piece of emergency medical equipment thanks to a $1,000 donation made by a Holly Township resident who wishes to remain anonymous.
Lt. Barb Breen said the resident stopped by NOCFA Station 1 last week to drop off her donation to the department in thanks to the ambulance crew who responded to her emergency a week earlier. “She told the crew that she was very grateful for the care that she received, and wanted to come by and personally thank the department,” Breen said. “She then told the crew that she was also there to make a cash donation to the department and handed the crew $1,000.”
Breen said the donation will be used to purchase a King Vision Laryngoscope, a piece of medical equipment used to secure the airway of a patient who is not breathing, so that adequate ventilation may be provided as quickly as possible.
“The ability to provide ventilation to patients in a timely manner is often the difference between life and death,” Breen said. “The equipment gives an immediate and clear view of the patient’s trachea or airway, allowing a faster intubation time.”
Breen said the department is very grateful for the donation. “The men and women of NOCFA are ready to respond to their resident’s emergencies 365 days a year, 24 hours a day,” she said. “We are proud and committed to providing the best care possible to all of our residents.”
