HOLLY, Michigan – Residents along the 800 block of Holly Bush Drive were awakened by a massive blast in the early Thursday morning after a car bomb exploded in a residential driveway.

According to a press release issued by the Holly Police Department, officers responded to several reports of a loud explosion around 1 a.m. on Sept. 6. Upon investigation, officers located a vehicle parked in a residential driveway which had sustained heavy damage from an explosive device.

Acting Chief of Police Michael Story said the explosion resulted in debris being blasted 45 to 50-feet away from the vehicle, and blew out the vehicle’s windshield.

The Michigan State Police Bomb Squad and an investigator from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms were contacted and assisted on the scene. The scene was secured, and no injuries were reported in the blast.

All agencies are seeking assistance from members of the public at this time in identifying suspects responsible for this crime. Those having information are asked to contact Det. Julie Bemus of the Holly Police Department at (248) 634-8221.

Reading the papers sounds like the village wants too. With all the manager saying budget cuts and laying off police and taking money from fire department. And miller saying it has to come from somewhere. Maybe I'm reading it wrong not real sure but sounds that way to me. You cut these departments to bad and more bad things and maybe even bigger things could happen to our little town. Just hope us village residents can help save some of theses cuts in November

That is my point holly2003. I don't think anyone "wants" to. There is a need to balance a budget and that may require a reduction in some services but that doesn't mean someone (or "the village") wants to do it.

I agree that there is a possibility for increased crime with reduced public safety services. This is why it is important for everyone to be seeking revenue generating and cost saving ideas. We need to be selling the pros of our community and coordinating with neighboring communities and the county.

The tv news called this the 3rd bombing. If that is true, why have we not heard of this before now? Cut the Holly Police's $5000,00 per day budjet, to cover 2.5 sq miles of territory. Sounds great to me. Cut the price of water also. What would the Oakland County Sheriffs dept do the work for? Close the Holly jail, end dispatch. Use savings to lower water rates.

iroquois... Because the water and sewer are enterprise funds, they cannot be financed with money from the general fund (which funds the public safety services). The water and sewer funds have to be paid for with the money that they generate (usage and service charge fees).

Jason thank you for your service to Holly. If the Police budjet was, say $500,00.00 less per year, what rule would prevent the village from useing these funds to invest in the purchace of some of the water and sewer dept's outstanding bonds. Thereby reducing costs to villagers.
