Councilwoman Sandra Kleven une... HOLLY, Michigan – Former Councilwoman Sandra Kleven is officially off the hook after council unanimously agreed to accept her July 10 resignation over a month later.
Kleven submitted an impromptu resignation following the July 10 council meeting. Per the Village Charter, council members couldn’t officially accept Kleven’s resignation until their next meeting on July 24, but failed to do so after Councilwoman Pauline Kenner and Councilmen Tom Clark and Don Winglemire voted no, tying the vote, and causing the motion to die.
In the Aug. 15 Village Council meeting, an abbreviated board revisited the issue.
With Village President Jeff Miller and Winglemire both absent, the remaining four council members including Councilman Jason Hughes, Councilwoman Jackie Campbell, Clark and Kenner unanimously approved Kleven’s resignation.
Council is expected to appoint Kleven’s replacement at the next Village Council meeting scheduled for Aug. 28.

Do the at-will employment laws not apply?
In cases like these, a vote to "accept a resignation" is less of approval than it is a vote of acknowledgment of the resignation, which should have been done in July.
