Clerk Karin Winchester

HOLLY TOWNSHIP, Michigan – Longtime Holly Township Clerk, Karin Winchester can add another title to her name, having recently earned the designation of Master Municipal Clerk (MMC) from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC), Inc.

IIMC grants the MMC designation only to those municipal clerks who complete demanding educational requirements, and to those who have a record of significant contributions to their local government, their community and state.

Founded in 1947, the IIMC is a non-profit organization, and has over 10,000 members throughout the US, Canada and 15 other countries with the primary mission of enhancing the educational opportunities and professional development of its diverse membership.

“In light of the speed and drastic change these days, lifelong learning is not only desirable, but necessary for all in local government to keep pace with the  growing demands and changing needs of  the citizens,” Brenda Cirtin, President of IIMC said. “Your township can take immense pride in Karin’s educational accomplishments and achievement of this milestone.”

Two questions. One, did Winchester pay for this training, or did we pay for it? If we the residents paid for this training, do all residents have the same educational opportunity, or is it the sole privilege of only one member of the community, the present township clerk?

Really, HollyShopper? The cost of the program is $100, or $135 if the applicant wants a plaque. That's about a penny per resident, if the Township covered the program for its employee.

Regardless, who cares who paid such a nominal sum for it? We, as a community, should be proud that our public servants engage in professional development and receive uncommon recognition such as this.

When we look for nothing but the bad in any situation, that's usually all we'll find.

Come on "hollyshopper"... Why would everyone in the community be entitled to professional development training intended for municipal clerks?

I guess with that thinking we should all be entitled to the same training as the officers, village manager and every other public position too (township, state and federal levels).

Winner of most ridiculous comment of the week!

Isn't ironic that Karin has been in office for 8 years and NOW that someone is running against her she gets this certificate? More foul odor coming from this office.

It's not ironic. It's a time-consuming process. Not something that can achieved so easily. www.iimc.com/

Whats ironic is the fact that you think she just ran out and got it. This is something that takes several years of training to achieve.

I say shame to those who cannot take pride in their local officials seeking out education to better themselves and the community.
Congratulations to Clerk Winchester on her achievement. I hope that all elected officials would make such an effort to perform their duties to the highest ability. Education should never be scoffed at it should be revered!
