Bill Bullard presents Debbie M... ROSE TOWNSHIP, Michigan – According to Oakland County Register of Deeds, Bill Bullard, Rose Township Clerk Debbie Miller is “ahead of the curve,” after recently earning the title of Certified Municipal Clerk.
Bullard lauded Miller’s efforts during the Wednesday night Rose Township Board of Trustees meeting before presenting her with a plaque.
“Becoming a Certified Municipal Clerk is quite an achievement – it takes a lot of time and effort, and it takes a lot of initiative because certification for a clerk is not currently required under state law right now.”
Bullard said a bill requiring that township, city and village clerks are certified is currently moving through the state legislature and that all Michigan clerks will eventually be required to become certified.
“Debbie is ahead of the curve, because when this new state law comes into effect, she will already be certified,” Bullard said.
Before presenting Miller with the plaque, Bullard read a letter penned by the president of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks.
“The IIMC grants a Certified Municipal Clerk designation only to those Municipal Clerks who complete demanding educational requirements and who have a record of significant contributions to their local government, their community and the state,” Bullard read. “In light of the speed and drastic nature of changes these days, lifelong learning is not only desirable, it is necessary for all in local government to keep pace with growing demands and changing needs of the citizens we serve. We applaud your educational accomplishments and achievement of this milestone and congratulate you on your personal pursuit of professional excellence.”
“I am thrilled to have achieved my CMC and to have my plaque presented to me by Mr. Bullard as he is the Oakland County Clerk and my boss/mentor,” Miller said. “It really meant a great deal to me.”
