HOLLY, Michigan – In 2001 and after a lengthy application process, the village of Holly was among 12 downtowns selected to participate in Oakland County’s Main Street Program.

With a goal of maximizing the economic potential and preserving the heritage and sense of place in Oakland County’s historic commercial districts, the program encourages and facilitates the use of Main Street’s Four Point approach, emphasizing economic development within the context of historic preservation.

At a press conference held July 16 in Ferndale, Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson recognized the village of Holly as one Oakland County’s Main Street communities receiving accreditation for meeting the commercial district revitalization performance standards established by the National Trust Main Street Center. According to the National Trust, only about a third of designated Main Street Programs receive national accreditation.

“Holly has been a Main Street Oakland County Community since 2001,” Director for Holly’s Downtown Development Authority Suzanne Perreault told members of the press conference. “We have been working toward this designation since then, and it’s quite an honor for our program and our community.

“We would not have been able to achieve this designation without the resources provided by Oakland County.”
