HOLLY, Michigan – Theater-goers won’t want to miss the production of Tim Kelly’s, “It was a Dark and Stormy Night,” as the Holly High School Theatre troupe performs this comedy later this month.

Customer service isn’t Ye Olde Wayside Inn’s strong point. In fact, the eccentric Saltmarsh family seems anxious to discourage visitors from stopping, even when the wind is howling and the road outside is becoming a quagmire.

That is, except for cousin Ebenezer, who’s only too keen to ensure young female nurses in particular don’t leave the creepy Massachusetts hotel any time soon. Whatever must the spirit of the long-dead General Saltmarsh think?

It Was a Dark and Stormy Night – a phrase which has long since passed into the realms of cliché – is a daft, but undeniably dark, spoof chiller by the late Tim Kelly that carries the strapline “The Addams Family meets Arsenic and Old Lace”.

Directors Joe Mishler and Karin Bicknell said their cast includes Jack Coatling, Lindsey Brendel, HHS choir teacher, Lindsey Martin, former Village Manager, Jeff Miller, Linda Mishler, Leanne Ma, Gabe Disbrow, Marissa Brake, Kaylie Towne, Cody Petzold, Kortnee Henski, Nick Remesz, Terri Easterling, and Taylor Breeding.

The talented troupe will perform the comedy at 7:30 p.m. on April 22, and 23, and at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on April 24 at the HHS auditorium, 6161 E. Holly Road.

All proceeds will go into the Connolly Theatre Scholarship, and senior scholarships will be awarded following the final April 24 performance. Mishler said scholarships are awarded to HHS seniors who have demonstrated exceptional theatre skills and been involved with the theatre program for at least three years. In addition to receiving a plaque, winners' names will be added to a permanent plaque in the lobby, and they will receive a monetary award.

Tickets are $5 for adults and $4 for students and senior citizens. For more information, contact Joe Mishler at (810) 348-9960.
