Students of Patterson Elementa... ROSE TOWNSHIP, Michigan – As the number of children diagnosed with autism, cerebral palsy and other special needs increase, parents, doctors and therapists are continually looking for alternative ways to engage the child and provide long-term benefits.
While therapeutic horse riding isn’t new, its benefits have only been realized in the past 50 years. Individuals with almost any disability can benefit from riding, driving, vaulting, competition or other purposeful, safe and supervised interaction with horses.
From 2 – 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, Pretty Pony Pastures, 9160 Eagle Rd., is hosting a unique hands-on seminar for persons with special needs. Owner Linda Watson invites parents, caregivers, special education teachers, therapists, or anyone else who works with children having special needs to the event.
Watson said parents and caregivers are invited to bring their children to this event, where the children will be offered an evaluation horseback ride, and be able to participate in other activities that are involved with therapeutic riding. Watson said riders must weigh no more than 175 pounds in order to participate in the event.
Pretty Pony Pastures provides therapeutic riding programs for persons of any age with physical, mental or emotional disabilities. For more information, contact Watson at (248) 634-7276 or via email at
